Social change through music education

"Music has to be recognized as an agent of social development in the highest sense, because it transmits the highest values - solidarity, harmony, mutual compassion. And it has the ability to unite an entire community and to express sublime feelings" ~ Jose Antonio Abreu
Music education can be a tool to bring change in the world. Intensive ensemble practice can create a community and a sense of belonging often not found at schools. Children at risk of social isolation may be reached through the collective practice of music: its challenges and goal achieving process while maximizing executive functions and building grit. With 15 years experience in production, management and culture, Patricia Abdelnour designs and implements academic programs in social inclusion through music. As former member of the management team of El Sistema (Venezuela’s National Youth Orchestra System), she is passionate about her work with all global Sistema-inspired programs. Using her academic background in Music Production and Engineering and her Master’s Degree in International Relations, she co-founded the Ibero-American Association of Women Music Engineers and Producers.
